I had always wanted to teach even from a young age where I would mostly be playing teachers in my bedroom with my younger sister and my teddies. Since leaving school I have worked across various early years settings and healthcare centres across west Essex. I started out by volunteering in a reception class and working as a nursery nurse in local nurseries, to gain experience of the early years, whilst completing my BA hons Degree with a First in Early childhood professional practice. I then became an early years/ family support worker in a children centre, supporting vulnerable families and delivering targeted sessions from 0 -5yrs to offer families the tools to help support their child’s development for school readiness. Here I was trained in pregnancy, baby and toddler yoga, speech and language, behaviour management, jabadao (physical development), potty training and school readiness. Eventually, we integrated with the Health visiting and speech and language team, where I added to my skills by learning how to weigh and register new births. I supported the wellbeing of parents through the emotional rollercoaster and carried out 1 and 2 year development checks.
Here I felt like I needed a new challenge and to fulfil my dreams of a young girl to become a teacher. I have now been at Freshwaters since November 2019. I’m at the beginning of my teaching career, where I am currently teaching in EYFS (Gruffalos) whilst completing my teacher training. Having the support of Freshwaters and BMAT behind me, it is the best decision I have made. I love teaching and the feeling of making a difference to a child’s learning journey. I feel my previous work experience has supported me by providing me with an extensive range of knowledge and the importance of opportunities in the early stages, to build the foundations which I am now honoured to be working with children in their early education at Freshwaters.
When I am not teaching, I have a 2 year old son who keeps me busy. You would normally find us hunting for dinosaurs in the forest or making craft. I also like to do yoga, keep up with a good box set and enjoy my family days out!!
